Pools By John Clarkson Story

Since the 1950’s, the Clarkson Family has been a leader in Jacksonville’s pool industry. John began working in the family business during the1960’s, and advanced to run the family business through the late 1970’s and 1980’s. Due to a difference in philosophy, John founded Pools by John Clarkson (PBJC) in 1989 to focus on innovative products, design, and more complex projects.

During the 1990’s, John attended the first Genesis 3 design school. These classes emphasized using proper design principals to create unique pools vs. building standard “cookie-cutters;” as well as an increased focus on hydraulics, innovative options, and high-quality materials. PBJC continues to advance this philosophy through educational classes that our designers and other team members attend each year.

One of the many milestones for PBJC was joining Aquatech, now UAG, in 1996. Being a member of UAG allows us to deal directly with the manufactures, which improves relationships by eliminating a middle man. In addition, being a part of a network of pool professionals from across the country creates an opportunity to learn from each other and attend educational symposiums, which helps us continuously improve. The Clarkson Family has been honored to serve in many roles within this large organization, including John’s time as an elected board member.

John’s eldest son, Jordan Clarkson, worked summers through high school and college building and servicing pools. After graduating from Furman University in 2000, he started in the business learning C.A.D, sales, and estimating. He has continued to learn the rest of the operations and intricacy of the company to now run it as the President.

Joel Hartman joined after graduating from the University of Florida in 2001. He was a swimmer in high school and found a love for pools at the college level. His focus has been in design, sales, and project management. He now runs the residential pool division.

Judd Clarkson joined after graduating from Moody Bible Institute in 2008. He began working in the scheduling department. Eventually, he began learning design, sales, and project management. He now also runs the residential pool division.

In 2010, with an increase focus on life-long relationships with our clients, PBJC started a full-time service department. Along with a commitment to aesthetic functionality and high-quality materials, PBJC can now design, build, maintain, service, and renovate our family of pools, which counts over 2,000 in Northeast Florida.

We would love for you to join our family!
